Depicting PTSD
10-33 looks at the effects of mental health through the perspective of a paramedic suffering from PTSD on the job. In a respectful manner, we hope to showcase a realistic portrayal of the strain that a mental illness can have on the lives of those affected. The subject matter is a delicate topic, and so, with the accumulated knowledge from our ongoing research process, there is emphasis on approaching the themes from both a believable yet creative standpoint in order to produce an impressionistic piece.
As Melanie struggles to come to terms with her trauma, her sister Becca and co-worker Evan are also coming to terms with how this illness impacts their own daily lives. Mental health struggles are not an isolated occurrence and therefore may affect closely-related people who are not directly suffering themselves.
